Tell us about your life journey in brief
When I was in 9th standard, I was given a class project which has to be made on MS PowerPoint. After submitting my project I thought like slide show in ppt, there must be a kind of software through which videos and audios can be edited and then Google helped me, now I know the names of softwares (movie maker, pinnacle, etc.). When my elder brother came to know my interest he suggested me PHOTOSHOP software for editing, from there I started editing photos and videos. Every day at school I made videos of my friends through phone camera and later edited them on movie maker. It took me few months to set my hands on movie maker and then PREMIER PRO came to my rescue, I was in 12th grade and already been using premier pro for 3 years. I joined the production group of IIT Kanpur students, they taught me many things on film making which I was unaware of, it created an interest of film making in me. When I completed my 12th boards I wanted to join a film making institute but there was an obstacle – My dad. He was extremely disappointed with my decision. He wants me to do B.Tech and then join our family business but it was not my cup of tea . I opposed him and took admission in a Media institute in Delhi. My mom and brothers supported me and sent me Delhi for my graduation. My DAD still doesn’t support me, he doesn’t even talk to me when I go home, he behaves as if I am nobody for him. Once in an argument he said that he is ashamed of me and I can only make wedding videos. It’s not I only want to prove him wrong but what matters to me is my dreams which I was following since 9th where young boys were busy in flirting and fights. I don’t want to be like Anurag Kashyap, Rajkumar Hirani or some famous names. I just want to be a film maker that’s it I want to be KAMALDEEP KATIYAR of KAYDEE Productions…
What prompted you to become a film maker?
What prompted me to become a film maker – I was fascinated with the fact that films are the illusions of reality, films are the best option if you actually want to change the world not just redecorate it . I was not in an opinion to work 10 to 6 9 (kya khaak zindagi hai daftar ki naukri hai, karne ka mann nhi fir bhi kiye jaaaooo) it’s not am lazy to work for 8 hours a day but actually I am that passionate about films that you can make me work 24 hours and still I want more and this feeling prompted me to be a film maker.

What is your dream /vision?
I am an ordinary guy with extraordinary dreams. I don’t try to guess what a million people will like, it’s hard enough to know what I like.
“I don’t make movies to make money, I make money to make more movies”
My dream is “if a million people see my movie, I hope they see a million different movies”.
What difficulties you face as an independent filmmaker?
I wish I could face one. Film making for me is not like a job which could be lost during recession, it’s more like a living like eating, drinking, shitting :p you know what I mean 😉 one cannot take their living as a difficulty and so do I. Nothing is difficult when u got a camera on play mode.
What inspires you or keeps you going?
My Inspiration is excellent cinema, strong content. People are crazy behind 100crores movies even if they lack in content. I am not saying they are not good but there should be something for people like me and I believe if you like something to be done best do it on your own. It’s my satisfaction which keeps me
Any fun/memorable incident?
Once we had a shoot in early morning. That day my partner in crime (girlfriend), director, writer of my team was arriving in Delhi from her hometown because of the shoot. I had no idea of her visit she kept it secret just to surprise me but her train came some 6 hours late. It was 2:30 am at morning she dared to hire a taxi and came to my flat, I was sleeping. She called me about 100 times and texted me like hell but I was sleeping like it’s the last time I got to sleep. She was standing out with a luggage bag on her shoulder one in her hand and crying like lost puppies, she also called my friend but he was also busy that time and after 2-3 calls he picked up then he called me and my roomie , I got conscious I picked my phone when I came to know that she is standing outside and crying. Firstly, I didn’t believe and abused my friend then suddenly I heard barking of dogs, I got up and went to my balcony, it was her crying I rushed to downstairs and opened the door I still remember her face it was all red wet with tears and looking like a small soft toy is wrapped with mufflers and sweaters and crying hard. She came to surprise me and actually I was totally surprised and angry too but she was much more angry. That day was an epic day of my life and an unforgettable for both of us. She said she will never dare to give a surprise to me ever.
What advice you’d like to give to someone who is interested in film making?
“You shouldn’t dream ur film u should make it”.
Anything else you would like to share?
Come up with good content, don’t think about shot angles, art or etc. just a good content , a film with good content always attracts the audience whether it shot through a 1100d or a 5d or any other expensive professional cameras .
