From a well paid job for 12 years to 2 years of hard struggle and core learning experience , Varun Garg shares his entrepreneurial Experience!
Tell us about your life journey in brief?
I had an experience of 12 years to work with different industries in marketing and advertising. I left my job in mid of 2014 and started working for my company. So as of now its 2 years of struggle and hard core learning experience. I gave 18 – 20 hours daily to work in last 2 years, but me and my partner is satisfied what we have achieved till now, because we know we made a way for a big story. We are now at such a stage where we are very focused for our mission and we are quite confident that our big success is not so far and of course we are not over confident.
Now as we have 3 ventures and working for various clients, we are growing in every possible way. Most important we have not taken any funding till now.
What prompted you to take an entrepreneurial plunge? Please let me know more about your startups?

Jewellery 18is an e-commerce portal for artificial and fashion jewellery. It’s an only market place for jewellery where sellers can sell their product to the buyers directly. Story behind the name “jewellery18” is the 18 years of age of any girl at which she moves from school to college and like to wear jewellery accessories according to her dresses, but due to limitation of pocket money she can’t buy precious jewellery, So she opts for fashion or artificial jewellery. Our pricing range of the product varies from Rs.199 to Rs.9999. Till now J18 has a good market presence and awareness. Our variety ranges wood jewellery, paper jewellery; textile jewellery, metal jewellery, American Diamond, Kundan, Polki, leather jewellery, Teracota jewellery, and many more, some of the varieties are not even available on big Ecom portals. What is your dream/ vision?

My dream is to make our company as group of companies in next 5 years.

Social Tahelka is one of our major project which will help us to be known in the market. Our aim is to make it something – not a news portal nor a simple blog, but something which can serve content for everyone’s interest.

What difficulties you face while running the show? What inspires you or keeps you going?
If you say about the challenges we faced, finance is the major one but along with it it was family and social pressure, everyone was trying to make me understand not to leave the job or not to take the risk to start something of our own. But it was good it made me more challenging to face the worst situation.
According to you, what is needed for Indian startup ecosystem to flourish?
If you are talking about the ecosystem for the start ups, it still need to be improved alot. There are number of schemes announced for the start ups, but there are lots of hidden conditions because of which start ups cant avail the support of these schemes.
What advice you’d like to give to a newbie who wants to startup?
My advice for startup’s founder is to follow someone who has achieved something in his life by himself. Now days it’s a trend that every one is writing blogs on start ups, becoming startup’s mentor, but first try to find out background of these mentors or bloggers what they have achieved. If it was so easy to become mentor or a start up founder by reading or writing few articles, i feel every one would have been an entrepreneur.

Anything else you’d like to share?
Lastly , i would like to say entrepreneurship is a passion and a way to get your dreams but even then you should always be ready for your failure. What i feel is that people start their start ups because they find it an easy way to escape from job or boss pressure. Please don’t keep such thinking.
