Saptarshi Sarkar is an engineering graduate. He has made 7 short films so far. Read on to know more about this young filmmaker.
Tell us about your life journey in brief?
I am from a middle class family. I am from Berhampore, Murshidabad(West Bengal). I just passed my engineering from Indian Institute of Engineering Science of Technology this year. Currently, I am working as a lecturer in a polytechnic college.
What prompted you to become a filmmaker?
From my childhood my passion is Painting. It then converted to photography and now it is filmmaking. passion.
Tell us about your team, if you have?
No I don’t have a team. The little boys helped me a lot. I do editing and cinematography myself.
How many/ What kind of movies you have made?
I made seven films so far – Jodi ek din, Itir Itikatha, Aprtyashito, Protibimbo, Devipokkho, Kisti maat, Ajob Prem e Goppo, Devipokkho. I make films mostly on social issues.
What is your dream/ vision?
To be a success filmmaker. To highlight various talents of Bengal as well as of India.
What difficulties you face as an independent filmmaker?
Mostly different technical issues like dubbing, mixing etc.
Any fun/ memorable incident?
In my one film Protibimbo, due to some reason the male lead and female lead could not match their time according to the shooting schedule, It was a problem so I shot the male part in Howrah and the female part in Kolkata and finally joined together them in the film.
What advice you’d like to give to someone who is interested/newbee in filmmaking?
Don’t panic. If you love films and filmmaking, just go ahead.
