Tell us about your life journey in brief?
B.Tech IIT Kanpur, Tata Motors 5 years, Hoshangabad Science teaching programme. Got interested in making science fun for children through simple, low-cost science activities.
Tell us about your initiative?
Children must learn science through activities. The experiments must be low-cost, many salvaged from trash so that the poorest children can access them.
What prompted you to start this particular initiative?
My experience with the Hoshangabad Science Teaching Programme, Madhya Pradesh in 1978.
Tell us about your team?
The team consisted of Ashok Rupner, Dr. Vidula Mhaiskar, Shivaji Mane and myself. In December 2014 Dr. Vidula Mhaiskar and Arvind Gupta left the Science Center and others have joined.
What is your dream/ vision?
Our vision statement is to PUT THE GLEAM BACK INTO THE CHILDREN’S EYES. TO MAKE SCIENCE FUN FOR THE POOREST CHILDREN ON EARTH.
What difficulties you face in running your initiative?
We worked as part of a Government organization which has a certain inbuilt inertia. But they supported this initiative which is great. But there are limitations to grow within a Government Institute.
What inspires you or keeps you going?
The joy we see on the faces of millions of children when they make their own toys and enjoy playing with them.
Any fun/ memorable incident?
Every day is a new and memorable day.
What advice you’d like to give to someone who is interested in starting on his own ?
Follow your heart. You have only one life to live. Never live someone else’s stale dream.
