Tell us about your life journey in brief?

I joined film industry in the year 2000, in the field of Steadicam operating and had been a part of more than 200-250 films – Bollywood & few international ones. I learnt a lot by working on a small scale film to a big scale Slumdog Millionaire. My filmmaking journey began in 2007, when I received my 1st award for my 1st short film under my own production Planet Vix – The Independent Film Company. Since then, I started to participate in film making contests and festivals. I quit my Steadicam job in 2010; my last film was ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ where I assisted in steadicam. I did 2 Indie feature films and many projects as a cinematographer too, including my own. Now, I am full time into direction.

What prompted you to become a filmmaker?

The passion of storytelling was like an inbuilt app which cannot be uninstalled. After my 1st short film, I decided to make it a regular exercise as this was the only way I could nourish myself as a filmmaker. I didn’t assist any director nor went to a film school. When I was in the technical field, besides my work, I used to observe directors, cinematographers and other technicians which helped me understand the craft. This experience was necessary but I have my own touch and style when I make my films.

Tell us about your team, if you have?

In my company, I handle most of the departments – writing, direction, shooting, editing and producing. I have few friends, Chirag shah (writer/actor/assistant director), Suvidha Singh (actor), Archer D’costa (sound), Tanush Singh (cinematography) who usually work with me when available. My fiancé, Neha Ved, who is from a journalism background and editing books, handles the creative direction and additional writing for my films.

How many/ what kind of movies you have made?

I have made approximate 40 films for my web-channel and there are many more to come; horror, thriller, wacky ways to convey a social message (which is one of my strong points). One my most successful short film is THE PRICE, which crossed 23 million views recently; it’s one of the highest viewed short film from India on YouTube. Apart from my web-channel, I have made Short films, Commercials, Corp videos, Music videos etc for other production houses too. Few to mention are – The remix version of ‘Tujhpe Fida’ by Salim-Sulaiman, the song from the movie Heroine, and my latest TVC, Tea commercial with TV actors Ashish Sharma & Sanaya Irani

What is your dream/ vision?

It is to; convert my dreams to reality by starting all my feature film projects as soon as possible, make my company, Planet Vix- The Independent Film Company, one of the best in mainstream Bollywood and digital content. The process has begun; I have already made an Independent Feature Film which is under post production now. It’s a thriller.

What difficulties you face as an independent filmmaker?

Being an Independent Filmmaker, budget is one thing that one has to take care of. Apart from that, one doesn’t have the liberty of using grips, lights and other hi-end equipments, which enhances the vision of a director. Actors, locations and marketing the film are also the factors which create difficulties.

Who/ What inspires you or keeps you going?

My goals in life and my interest in my profession are the only thing which keeps me going. I wanted to make a life that I don’t need a vacation from. So I chose my passion as my profession.

Any fun /memorable incident?

Sometimes, during the shoot we would start discussing the spoof version of our own film and start laughing at it when the actual ‘serious’ take is being shot. There are other feel good moments too; when people are inspired by you, your work and you get to see a glimpse of your own style in their films.

What advice you’d like to give to someone who is interested /newbie in filmmaking?

Whatever I have achieved and learnt is from my own experience so my only advice would be based on that. Work hard and smart towards your goals. Passion is good but you need bread and butter to keep you going. Try to balance both sides and whenever you make your 1st short film – try to handle most of the departments yourself. This will help you grow.

Anything else you’d like to share?

We are coming with lot of interesting films; short, web-series and more. So do watch out for them at . Our next hard-hitting film will release soon after completing the rounds of festivals. My brief work profile can be seen on
