Abhijeet Nag who started with theater made a very good short film – The Dark Truth. Read on to know how he made his first short film with minimal resources.
Tell us about you and your team (if you have) in brief
My name is Abhijeet Nag. I was born and brought up in Nagpur. I have done my graduation and MBA from Nagpur University. Though I was not that bright student but somehow I had managed my studies in a quite good manner. I was national level football player and played for professional clubs. Earlier I was a part of rock band called “Vacancy”. My journey of acting and direction started when I was in 9th class with short theater plays. I also had participated in many cultural events in my hometown Nagpur. I played a small character role in the Feature film “The Guilty Misfits” and Anupam Kher sir is one of the cast in that film. My dad was Bengali theater artist, my mom is very good in Bengali poems and we have a good cultural family background. So I think me and my brother both are very blessed.
I have a team of passionate people starting from Jaydeep Nag “Director of photography”, Actors like Prashant Singh, Sumit Tewari, Vishal Budhraja, Vandita Gandhi,Ankita Narawanekar, Jitendra giri Goswami. Fashion Designer cum actor “Tushar Koche” and “ Swapnali Jambhulkar”, Singer Aniket Thawkar and Pratishtha Sharma, Drummer Anup Hosmani and Gaurav Telang a Music recordist, a sound engineer and designer from Reverb Sound Studio Pune.
How did you come up with the idea of this particular short film?
Earlier I was basically into theater plays kind of stuff but now I have changed my mind and creating and writing long and short film scripts. Because I think we have lot of easy mediums like social media, Film Fest and many more where we can easily express, show and publish our creations. Short Film“ The dark Truth” is the first creation of mine. I do have many scripts on which I will be working soon.
What all prominent “Jugaads” did you do to make the film with minimal resources?
For this short film “ The dark Truth”, I only Spent around 6 thousand rupees and major portion of this amount I have spent into dubbing and song recording and for the rest of the arrangements I have used my personal contacts i.e.”Jugaad”.
What recognition did you get for this short film?
After this first short film, I have signed two short film contract of other than our home production. I got good and bad feedback from Indian film fraternity which would help me to enhance my skills.
What advice with you give new / aspiring film-makers on making a low budget film?
First of all Madness, Observation, dedication, execution and belief would be required for filmmaking. And try to use non actors or emerging actors for your project that would reduce the film cost. Try to learn and invest more into technical stuffs.
