Tell us about your life journey in brief?
I born in a poor family. My father works as a looms worker in Surat(Gujarat) and mother used to give tuitions for better life. I had education till 12th in Hyderabad in a convent, as I had to support my family so I came back to Surat and start giving tutions and completed B.com and then Masters in educational management. While I was doing my masters, I also worked as a teacher in P.R.Khatiwala Vidya Sankul for two years. During that period my uncle (mama) passed away whose dream was to be a Film Director. I joined VFX & Film Making and decided to become Film Director. Now I do short films for my practice and looking forward to join Bollywood soon.
What prompted you to become a filmmaker?
I was very much interested in acting but when I came to know that my mama (Srinivas) died without fulfilling his dream, I made it as my aim and decided to become a Film Director. When my faculty gave the title – Director chandradhar Putta for an animated film “The clay man stories”, it brought tears in my parents eyes and that moment I felt if they will see my name on the big screen how would they react?? So, decided to become a filmmaker and start working towards it
Tell us about your team, if you have?
I don’t have any finance or sponsor for my short films I do gather money from my part time job and do films. Yes, I work with the team. In my team I have people who are interested in Cinematography, VFX artist. Specially I do want to mention my team member Karan Parekh; he provides me vfx. My team always cooperate with me; and provide me whatever I want in scene from them. Thank you God for such people.
How many/ What kind of movies you have made?
I have made different kind of films. I made educational, documentary, ad films, moral based films, animation (stop-motion) films, live action short films and live action long short films. I always try to make films on different subjects. I have all my films on my Youtube channel named “Chandradhar Putta”.
What is your dream/ vision?
My dream is to become a full fledged Film Director and contribute my life towards Indian Film Making in different languages and also want to support new filmmakers in doing small budget films.
What difficulties you face as an independent filmmaker?
Well difficulties! The institute I joined didn’t teach me story writing, screenplay, direction. I learned on my own. Initially, due to lack of sources I use to manage with mobile and boom stick mic for dubbing and editing used to be done at my own PC which has low configurations. I borrowed DSLR from my friends for 1- 2 hrs and did shooting.
Any fun/ memorable incident?
While I was making animation films we did it with big team and used to enjoy a lot. As everyone used to think & discuss about each shot. During the Kray twins we used to have night outs for post production work. Working upon “swachh bharat” project learning about how paralyses patients behave and explaining the actor. Chasing scene with a baby carrying in “The KrayTwins” the climax scene of “The Courier” where smoking scenes are canned which irritated and trouble me and my team; these moments are really memorable.
What advice you’d like to give to someone who is interested/newbie in filmmaking?
My advice or suggestion. Well I don’t feel I am upto that level to give someone advice but i would like to share my idea. Filmmaking is a multi tasking field. It consists of many sub fields. Ego must be eliminated completely and a broad mind should be there for this field. If you want to do something you can, you don’t require any institute or any teacher. Today we have lot of sources through where we can gain knowledge regarding any software, vfx or technique for editing..
Anything else you would like to share?
I would like really thank Stagephod.org from the bottom of my heart for such motivation. We are filmmakers from different places and you people are gathering us and making people note of our struggle. Thanks a lot again.
